How it works
Calisthenics is a distinct branch of fitness, using one’s own body weight and movement to increase muscle strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. Calisthenics dates to Ancient Greece and has evolved to encompass modern techniques.
Calisthenics uses sets or repeated movements such as pushups, sit-ups, dips and many more through to more advanced movements such as the planche, handstands, levers, strict pullups and muscle ups to help build muscle and tone your physique.
These exercises can be modified or compounded in different positions to target different muscle groups.
Benefits
Calisthenics is a physical and often demanding exercise that improves lean muscle tone and helps burn fat. Calisthenics is used to build muscle strength and can be suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Calisthenics involves elements of higher intensity which you can also experience in NXTLVL’s Functional Training classes. This higher intensity training helps improve cardiovascular endurance.
Many calisthenic moves develop flexibility and mobility – even in people who don’t feel tightness in their muscles. Calisthenics can act as a remedy to modern sedentary lifestyles or as part of a physiotherapy program.
