How it works
Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting encompass many different barbell techniques such as the Olympic clean and jerk and the snatch. Common power lifting moves include the deadlift, squat, Romanian deadlift, Sumo deadlift, and bench press, plus many other compound movements.
Consistent repetition of these exercises increases muscle mass, known as hypertrophy.
Benefits
Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting have numerous fitness and mental benefits, the first being increased overall muscle tone and strength. Many lifting exercises develop your core (abdominal) strength which improves stability. It can also target your glutes, obliques, and lower back muscles.
Lifting is a high intensity workout, which helps reach your weight loss goals.
Lifting increases muscle mass in legs and arms which can see gains in explosive power. This power is used in athletics for jumping, starting power, pushing power, and kicking or punching in martial arts.
Additional benefits come from disciplining the mind and body as lifting requires regular strenuous effort to see gradual, not immediate, improvement.
